ECEM/EAML 2004
Ecological modelling is concerned with the development and use of mathematical, computer and simulation models of ecosystems. It is a relatively young scientific discipline, which is rapidly gaining importance, especially because of the use and usefulness of ecological models for the management of natural resources. The European Conference on Ecological Modelling (ECEM) is the premiere European scientific event in the area of ecological modelling and regularly attracts an international audience. Delegates from all over the world are welcome.
As environmental concerns grow and information technology develops, more and more data on the different aspects (physical, chemical, biological, ecological) of the environment are gathered. There is an increasing need to analyse the collected environmental data for different purposes, which include the support for environmental management decisions. The International Workshop on Environmental Applications of Machine Learning will provide a forum for presenting recent advances in applying machine learning and data mining techniques for the analysis of environmental data.
The Fourth European Conference on Ecological Modelling and the Fourth International Workshop on Environmental Applications of Machine Learning (EAML) will be organized jointly in Bled, Slovenia, during the week of September 27 - October 1, 2004. A single registration fee will enable researchers to participate in both events. The events aim to bring together researches from the areas of ecology, ecological modelling and environmental sciences, on one hand, and the areas of data analysis, data mining and machine learning, on the other.
Abstracts should be submitted by March 20, 2004. Notification of acceptance for presentation at the conference will be sent by April 15, 2004. Full papers should be submitted by June 15, 2004. They will be reviewed by members of an international program committee for inclusion in a special issue of the journal Ecological Modelling and/or an edited book.
In the week following ECEM/EAML-04 (October 4-7), the ninth edition of the seminar (course) "Analysis of Environmental Data with Machine Learning Methods" will take place in Ljubljana. The seminar will give an introduction to selected machine learning methods as well as illustrative case studies of using these methods to analyse environmental data. The participants will learn to use selected machine learning tools and will have the opportunity for practical work with these tools on real environmental data. A separate registration fee applies for this event.
