A KDD system is extensible if   new methods can be integrated w/o kernel reprogramming or knowledge of system internals, by people other than system developers extensions can be added at user site w/o special expertise system manages analysis tasks and results in a uniform way for built-in and extension tools, tasks and results are first-class objects

 

• algorithm developers can make new methods available to users w/o worrying about data preparation, user interface, result mgmt.
• skilled analysts can add methods from other sources to their working environment

end users can obtain and add ready-made extensions
